2007 Workshop Agendas
Workshop participants critiqued and discussed the draft report “Comprehensive Recommendations Supporting the Use of the Multiple Lines of Defense Strategy to Sustain Coastal Louisiana”. This draft report was developed by a team of scientists and engineers through a partnership with the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana. This draft report utilizes the state’s master plan, but also uses more recent information to develop recommendations to refine this plan and drive it toward implementation. Discussion included restoration measures for the coast, improvement to levees, elevating homes and all other “Lines of Defense”. The workshops focused on the integration and relationship of the individual components of a plan. Integration means components should mutually support each other and their contribution should not conflict with the overriding goals of improving flood protection while sustaining the coastal estuary. The overall goal of the workshops was to facilitate convergence on the best projects to keep our coast healthy while providing adequate flood protection from storm surges.
The MLOD Assessment Team will review all comments and suggestions made during the workshop discussions. Alterations will be made to incorporate those suggestions, where agreed upon, into the next version of the report.
